Here is an example. So, you are writing for LinkedIN and someone asks you in a private message, about your views, your ideas and how to make a situation better. You and the person are vibing and having a great time. Then, the next day? They ghost you. No further contact. No explanation. You are not sure what happened. You try to forget the strange interaction, but something about it does not feel right. Then a week later you see your OWN ideas, your OWN suggestions and solutions boldly printed somewhere else! It is not from the person who took it from you, but it is not something that you can prove outright. Ideas are ideas, and suggestions are suggestions right?

Well, it is the TIMING! That is right. The timing is way too close. Are your ideas catching on?

Here is another example: A very friendly algorithm spots you, scrolling away on a social media site. You are pretty happy, it is early morning, and you are sipping tea or an espresso. Suddenly…a super polished profile contacts you on messenger. As you talk to it, you realize that it is not a human. However, you are pretty happy that it is asking you about your thoughts and opinions. Then bam! A week later, your very thoughts and ideas are being touted by someone “Important.” Was that you? Did you help the algorithm along and did they feed your words to this person? You will never know for sure, but it will feel strangely suspicious, and if you confront them? You look paranoid. Often times the person will not even know where those thoughts or ideas came from. All they know is that it came from somewhere. It was good, so they took it. They will get full credit too.

Sometimes you have to be the bigger person. Do you want your ideas out there? Do you want to see it implemented? Do you mind being in the background or a ghost writer for your ideas?

Just to rehash…

You’re scrolling peacefully.
It’s early morning.
You’re sipping tea or espresso.
The feed feels quiet, almost sacred.
Then—ping.
A super-polished profile slides into your messenger.
Friendly. Warm. Curious.
